What is "21st Century Slot"? (Senbatsu Tournament)

There are three certain categories of Senbatsu Tournament's selection criteria to decide who will participate in the tournament: Regional representations (General slots), 21st Century Slot, and Special Invitation Slot.

Regional representations or General slots, as its name each representative from 10 different region will be automatically participated in the Senbatsu Tournament, after they won the fall regional tournament from the previous year. Special Invitation Slot is given to one specific team from the same region with the winner of the Meiji Jingu Baseball Tournament (e.g. in 2024 Yokohama HS (Kanto-Kanagawa) won the Meiji Jingu Baseball Tournament, so one certain team from the same Kanto-Tokyo region can participated in the Senbatsu Tournament under the selection committee from Koyaren (JHBF)).

But then, what is a "21st Century Slot"? And how it works?

"21世紀枠" (Nijuu-issei'waku) is often used in the context of Japanese highschool baseball (such as the Senbatsu tournament). • Final Selection: The Japan High School Baseball Federation (日本高等学校野球連盟, Nihon Kōtō Gakkō Yakyū Renmei) makes the final decision on which teams are awarded the 21st Century Slot.
